GameCube digital (GCVideo & co.)¶
The GameCube DOL-001 has a digital port (Digital AV Out) that exposes the raw digital video — a priceless gift: a simple adapter draws pixel-perfect HDMI from it, without opening the console. Common base: the GCVideo firmware.
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| System | GameCube DOL-001 (with digital port) — not DOL-101 |
| Type | HDMI from the Digital AV Out (digital video bus) |
| Level | 🟢 plug-and-play (adapter) → 🟠 (soldered internal versions) |
| Reversible | ✅ (external adapter) |
The digital port: why it's special¶
The Digital AV Out on DOL-001s outputs video already digitised by the Flipper GPU. Adapters connect an FPGA (GCVideo) to it that encodes HDMI directly — no analog conversion, so a perfect image.
Check the model: DOL-001 vs DOL-101
The DOL-101 (late revision) lacks the digital port → these plug-and-play mods are impossible on it (only analog component/RGB remains, or a complex internal mod). Look under the console: DOL-001 = OK.
The products (all GCVideo-based)¶
| Product | Format | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Carby (Insurrection Ind.) | external adapter | plug-and-play, HDMI, good value |
| GCDual (Citrus3000psi) | internal | HDMI + analog RGB simultaneously, OSD |
| GCHD Mk-II (EON) | external adapter | mainstream, solderless |
| PixelFX G3 GEM / GCFX | internal | high-end, advanced scaling |
| GCVideo-DVI (DIY) | internal/external | open-source base firmware — many products derive from it |
Installation¶
- Carby / GCHD (external): clips onto the digital port. No soldering. 🟢
- GCDual / PixelFX (internal): opening + soldering the flex onto the internal digital connector, HDMI output on the front. 🟠
Before / after¶
| Criterion | GameCube (composite/RGB) | GCVideo (HDMI) |
|---|---|---|
| Signal | analog | digital HDMI |
| Sharpness | fair (RGB) → blurry (composite) | pixel-perfect |
| Modern TV hookup | scaler required | direct |
| Effort | cable | clip-on adapter |

How this space is used
Spotted a wrong value, an outdated procedure, a chip reference that does not match your board? Say so here, with what you observed (model, board revision, serial number, measurement). Every report is cross-checked against a source before anything changes — an unverifiable correction is published as “reported by …, not cross-checked” rather than silently applied.
Reading is open to everyone; posting requires signing in with Discord. Reports from the wiki's declared reviewers are handled first; anyone else's are read too, but go through a human before anything is changed.
