Flashcarts (EverDrive & co.)¶
For cartridge consoles (no optical drive), the ODE equivalent is the flashcart: a cartridge with an SD card that loads any game on the system. Market reference: the EverDrive (Krikzz) range.
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Systems | NES, SNES, Mega Drive, N64, Game Boy/GBA, Master System, PC Engine, Neo-Geo… |
| Type | SD flash cartridge |
| Level | 🟢 plug-and-play |
| Reversible | ✅ (nothing to modify on the console) |
Principle¶
A flashcart contains an FPGA/microcontroller + an SD slot. It presents the chosen game to the console like a real cartridge (mappers/enhancement chips emulated as needed). No console modification.
The main ranges¶
| Range | Systems | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| EverDrive (Krikzz) | NES, SNES, MD, N64, GB/GBC/GBA, SMS, PCE… | the reference, reliable, well supported |
| Mega SD (Terraonion) | MD + emulated Mega-CD | see Mega SD |
| Super SD System 3 (Terraonion) | PCE + emulated CD | see Super SD System 3 |
| FXPAK PRO (ex-SD2SNES) | SNES | advanced mappers (Super FX, SA-1…) emulated in FPGA |
| EON / others | various | variable quality |
SNES: FXPAK PRO for the special chips
On Super Nintendo, games with an enhancement chip (Super FX, SA-1, DSP-1…) need a flashcart that emulates these coprocessors: the FXPAK PRO (formerly SD2SNES) is the reference for that.
Beware of compatibility / clones¶
- Check the flashcart emulates the mappers of the target games (especially NES and SNES).
- Many EverDrive clones circulate → prefer Krikzz (firmware, compatibility, ethics).
Before / after¶
| Criterion | Physical cartridges | Flashcart |
|---|---|---|
| Library | 1 game / cartridge | the whole library on SD |
| Connector wear | frequent handling | a single cartridge |
| Homebrew / patches | difficult | direct |

Open-source firmware/hardware archived here
The FXPAK PRO derives from the open-source sd2snes project (ARM firmware + FPGA
core that reimplements the enhancement chips + KiCad sources) —

Review & corrections
How this space is used
Spotted a wrong value, an outdated procedure, a chip reference that does not match your board? Say so here, with what you observed (model, board revision, serial number, measurement). Every report is cross-checked against a source before anything changes — an unverifiable correction is published as “reported by …, not cross-checked” rather than silently applied.
Reading is open to everyone; posting requires signing in with Discord. Reports from the wiki's declared reviewers are handled first; anyone else's are read too, but go through a human before anything is changed.
