Mega SD (Terraonion)

An all-in-one cartridge for the Mega Drive: a flashcart (MD games on SD) and a Mega-CD emulator — it reads Sega CD images with no optical drive. The most complete solution for the Mega Drive ecosystem.

Field Value
Systems Mega Drive / Genesis + Mega-CD / Sega CD (emulated)
Type SD flashcart + Mega-CD ODE
Level 🟢 plug-and-play (cartridge)
Reversible ✅ (nothing to solder)

What it does

  • Mega Drive games from the SD (like an EverDrive).
  • Mega-CD: reads CD images (BIN/CUE) without the optical drive — no need for a working Mega-CD to play CD games (the BIOS is still required, supplied by you).
  • Master System, add-ons, regions, saves, cheats.

The Mega-CD angle

Mega-CDs suffer from the laser and the Model 1 gear. The Mega SD emulates the drive: you can play Sega CD games without maintaining the optical block. Huge for preservation.

Beware of clones

The Mega SD is heavily cloned. Prefer Terraonion (manufacturer) for compatibility, firmware and support.

Installation

None: it's a cartridge. Insert it, put the SD (FAT32) with images + the Mega-CD BIOS, and the menu does the rest.

How this space is used

Spotted a wrong value, an outdated procedure, a chip reference that does not match your board? Say so here, with what you observed (model, board revision, serial number, measurement). Every report is cross-checked against a source before anything changes — an unverifiable correction is published as “reported by …, not cross-checked” rather than silently applied.

Reading is open to everyone; posting requires signing in with Discord. Reports from the wiki's declared reviewers are handled first; anyone else's are read too, but go through a human before anything is changed.
