McWill LCD (Game Gear, Lynx, Nomad)

For handhelds whose original screen is poor and aging (Game Gear, Atari Lynx, Sega Nomad), the McWill kit replaces the panel with a sharp, bright modern LCD — often with a VGA/AV output as a bonus.

Why

  • Game Gear: the original screen is blurry/ghosting and the capacitors die (recap mandatory first). The McWill gives a sharp, bright, trail-free image.
  • Lynx: dark, smeary original panel → the McWill transforms the console.
  • Nomad: poor original LCD (lines, angles) → McWill = night and day.

Game Gear: recap BEFORE the McWill

On Game Gear, nothing works well until the SMD capacitors (sound + power) have been replaced (they all leak). Do the recap first, then fit the McWill. See Game Gear.

Installation (summary)

  1. Full recap (Game Gear especially) — a non-negotiable prerequisite.
  2. Remove the original screen, solder the McWill board to the indicated video points.
  3. Adjust the fit in the shell (sometimes small touch-ups).
  4. (Often paired) li-ion battery + USB-C, glass lens.
