GC Loader (GameCube)

The GameCube ODE: it replaces the DVD drive with an SD card. Paired with the Swiss homebrew, it runs all your game images, no laser.

Field Value
System GameCube (DOL-001 & DOL-101)
Type SD ODE (replaces the optical drive)
Level 🟡 (drive removal; a simplified PNP version exists)
Reversible

What it does

The GameCube DVD (8 cm mini-DVD) and its laser wear out. The GC Loader plugs into the drive connector and reads ISO images from an SD via the Swiss homebrew loader. Two variants:

  • GC Loader (classic): ribbon on the drive connector.
  • GC Loader PNP: a plug-and-play version that fits more simply in place of the drive.

Swiss = the Swiss army knife

Swiss (homebrew) is the companion launcher: region-free, video settings, ISO launching, force-progressive, etc. Indispensable on the software side.

Installation (summary)

  1. Open the GameCube, remove the DVD drive.
  2. Connect the GC Loader to the drive connector (or the PNP version).
  3. Prepare the SD with Swiss + your ISOs.
  4. (Often paired) GCVideo HDMI mod for the image.

How this space is used

Spotted a wrong value, an outdated procedure, a chip reference that does not match your board? Say so here, with what you observed (model, board revision, serial number, measurement). Every report is cross-checked against a source before anything changes — an unverifiable correction is published as “reported by …, not cross-checked” rather than silently applied.

Reading is open to everyone; posting requires signing in with Discord. Reports from the wiki's declared reviewers are handled first; anyone else's are read too, but go through a human before anything is changed.
